Freeport, Maine is the small town generally known as the birthplace of the state of Maine. It was founded as a small parcel of land attached to the town of North Yarmouth in the late 18th century. In fact, the town was freed from North Yarmouth on the Fourth of July in 1889, the date that coincides with our nation's independence.

Situated on the Atlantic Coast, Freeport, Maine thrives on the fishing industry with fish and lobsters coming in from the cold Atlantic waters. Besides fishing, the town made it big building ships in the good old days and still continues to do till date. You can visit the historic shipbuilders in Freeport to see how ships were built in the past.

Getting to Freeport, Maine is quite simple. The town is a quick 20 miles from Portland and only about a two hour’s drive from Boston. A quicker way to visit Freeport is to fly directly into Portland and then make the drive from there. It will take approximately a half hour to make the trip one-way.
