Moped Accidents in Italy

Many people are aware of all the Mopeds in Italy, but did you know how many people are injured and or killed each year on these little scooters? The number is quite alarming indeed and also Pedestrian accidents are very common. Even worse many tourists get on these scooters and get themselves into trouble while on vacation or step out in front of a moped not realizing how dangerous this can be.

Why are Moped accidents so prevalent? Well some say because the Italians are maniacs on the road and drive these little scooters like speed demons. Indeed in observation this is hard to argue and yet it is amazing how excellent some of these folks are while driving these little two-wheel units. And believe it or not they have a code of honor and work together as they drive, almost like swarming wasps.

Does this mean you are going to get me on one during my next vacation there? Well, I am not opposed to the idea, but believe me when I tell you that as I drive I will be paying attention to what is going on around me and not looking up at all the architecture, sights and taking digital pictures as I cruise down the narrow streets dodging obstacles, tourists and cobblestone bumps. Consider all this in 2006.
