If you wish to enjoy the Grand Canyon, without the stress it involves, avoid the South Rim. How can you possibly enjoy the beauty and grandeur that is before your eyes when you have crowds pushing their way to steal a better view all around you? The only way to avoid the crowds is to accept the fact that there is much more to the Grand Canyon than the South Rim. There are three other places where you can enjoy the Grand Canyon with fewer people and less bother: the North Rim, the West Rim, and Torroweap. Each of these places has its own attractions, and each is far less crowded than the always-swamped South Rim. Some carefully planning can help you better enjoy one of the natural wonders of the world. You get a very picturesque view of the Canyon from the North Rim. It is also much cooler, as it is at a higher elevation and further north. So, you will not only cut out the crowds but will also not suffer the 100-dregree heat of the South Rim during the summer months. Moreover, you can take comfortable hikes in the evergreen forest bordering the North Rim. You can get some great accommodation option at the North Rim. From rental cabins right at the canyon edge to a variety of campsites it has it all. For a more private and comfortable lodging you can even opt for the rustic hotel rooms at the large lodge of the North Rim. North Rim also features a restaurant, a bar and a gift shop. The North Rim remains closed for the visitors from October to April and at times May for the winters. The West Rim has its own attractions. The Grand Canyon Ranch is located on the edge. It is less crowded than the North Rim and it offers beautiful accommodations in cabins or even in teepees. There are natural springs nearby, and it has a launch pad for a hot air balloon ride. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery thoroughly in this remote spot. The least crowded is Torroweap. It is practically deserted anytime you go because it so out of the way. It is very close to the Utah border with Arizona. You have to drive into the Arizona Strip District and turn onto a very poorly maintained county road. After bumping over it for an hour at a slow pace you will come to the edge of the canyon. You have to be careful at Torroweap because there are no fences and no warning signs. There is just the sheer expanse of the canyon. Occasionally, you may get faint hints of other people's visit to this spot. The scenery is breathtaking. Even the hour-long bumpy ride is richly compensated by the view of dramatic red cliffs and bright blue sky. However, you will need to concentrate on the road lest you drive off the edge. The Grand Canyon is truly a site worth seeing, and for maximum enjoyment, it should be seen without crowds. By going to the North Rim, the West Rim, or to Torroweap, you can have truly moving experience that has nothing to do with being pushed by crowds.
